Bristol saw hotel prices rise by 13% in 2014 compared with the year before – the biggest rise in the country.
That’s according to the Hotel Price Index published by Hotels.com, which recorded a rise in average room rates from £78 to £87 in the city.
Average room rates across the UK rose by 2%, with guests paying around £104 per night, according to the index.
Glasgow saw the second highest increase at 12%, thanks to the Commonwealth Games, and Oxford and Durham were both up 11%. Leeds, which hosted the opening leg of the Tour De France rose 8%.
Matt Walls, vice-president of Hotels.com, said: “The UK clearly displayed the ability to attract a record number of visitors in 2014.
“In spite of the increase in the national average room rate, overall prices paid by consumers are still great value, a clear indication that the tourism industry here is in good shape.
“Europe continues to provide the bulk of inbound travellers, with rises in both the leisure and business sector, yet there is no doubt that global events such as the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and Tour de France last year helped boost the average hotel prices paid.”
